Mt Tam Hill Climb

Was very slow on the flat 4 miles before the hill. At the beginning I started a move and only Mark Margraf could follow. He pulled the entire time and it was all I could do to stay on his wheel. In the end I lost to him in a confused sprint where we were side by side with the lead masters sprint. Got first in the junior 15-16 race.

Started very fast. Brought tyler back to the group early in the race. With 4 laps to go I tried to get off the front. Lombardi had four people to bring me back with 3 laps to go. I tried another move the final time up the hill but was marked immediately. Finished 9th with the group.

First cat 3 race. Stayed in the field. Was stuck behind some problems the final time up the feed zone hill. Finished 40th or so with a chase group some time behind the leaders.

Perfect day for a bicycle race. First two laps averaged 32 mph. With 7 or so laps to go I was stoped by a pile-up right in front of me. I took free lap and stayed in the field the rest of the time. In the first corner of the last lap there was a massive crash that took up the whole road. I did not go down but was stalled. Finished 22nd a few seconds back.

15 minutes before the start of my race is was hailing very large hailstones. By the time it was time to start my race, it was pooring still. After a very fast downhill my legs were frozen up and I got winded of the back on a slight hill. After another downhill I found my self chasing with a rider that was very strong but about half the height of me. We dragged people in until we had a group of about 12 people. We split up on the final hill into the finish and I ended up finishing 28th.

Had good warm-up. Everything started clean. In first corner someone was standing in the middle of the rode which cause me to slow down a lot. On my way back from the turn around my stomach began to cramp up. I was stubborn and did not ease up which made it get worse to the point where I couldn’t pedal anymore. Once I recovered a little, I was going up a hill and at the top my chain dropped and after trying to get it back on while still riding (unsuccessfully) I had to get off and put the chain back on. Once I was moving again there were less than 2 km left. Finished 32th or so many minutes down.

Did cat 4 race. Stayed in the field most of the time except for a successful attempt to get to the feed zone first. The final time going up the wall I was poorly positioned and at the top I was right behind the group of 15 people. While chasing with someone else down to the finish 3 people crashed in a high speed corner. The other person and I never caught up. He finished in front of me and I ended up with 14th place.

Did juniors and 4’s. In juniors, rajiv, josh, lars, and peter kept me out of the wind so I was able to go off the front and win juniors. In 4’s, I stayed at the back of the field and finished half way down in the results.

Started fast. Colin started an attack that split the field up. I ended up in a group of 4 others including Blake and Colin. We ended up lapping the remainder of the field. Tried an attack in the last lap but was worn out from the rest of the race. Ended up 4th.

The First TT started with a promenade through town to the start and I got a flat when we were almost at the start house. I ended up missing my start by 3 minutes. Finished 35th at +7:57. Second TT was short and flat. Finished 10 at +1:10. The crit final was a fast technical coarse. Finished in the field. Overal, finished halfway down the field.

Juniors started with masters group. Tyler, Peter and myself ended up off the front right at the beginning working well together. As the group began to catch us a masters rider started working with us, the pace increased and after a while it was just the masters rider and myself ahead of everyone. At the beginning of the climb I had a problem with a wet cattle guard and lost contact with the masters rider. After that I rode easy to the finish. Wente RR (4/26/03, Junior 15/16): I knew the coarse was hilly and expected to get droped on the decents, if not the climbs. I was droped on the 2nd climb of the day, with Joe. We road to the finish together, not in last place. Good job Evan for the win. |
