Martinez Crit. 2/18/06
Juniors
Place: 1st
Field: ~11
Teammates: Tony, Peter, Zach

This race was fairly easy for me because not a lot of the 17-18s were there. The field got split up a lot. There were probably 5 or 6 of us in the front pack and we kept lapping the other kids. The Davis team kept attacking and eventually established a break away, but their break away didn't last long after I bridged up to them. We were going around 20mph or so when the Davis team was leading, but when I started leading we were going around 25mph so I kind of kept dropping them. The first couple of laps or so Tony, Zach, Peter, and I were all together. I think the Davis kids attacked and it separated the group, the people that were left were one guy from LGBCR, 2 Davis kids, and I. I thought Peter, Tony, and Zach were with us, but unfortunately they were not, we had dropped them. We started working together and rotating. a few laps later I saw Peter, Tony, Zach bridging back up to us, this was on Main St. before the finish. I slowed down to wait for them. When we got on to Court St. (the finish) I thought Peter, Tony, Zach were with us so I decided to attack a little bit on Ward St. on the downhill part. This was a bad decision that I made because I have Peter ( sorry Peter) now it was Tony, Zach, one LGBCR, 2 Davis kids, and I. we all took turns pulling and Tony and Zach did great. They pulled when they needed to which gave me a chance to keep recovering in the back. Tony and Zach pulled fast pace which was great but they were wearing themselves out for the last lap. Last lap came and us the group were going a little bit faster, when we got to Main St. I attacked straight from there to the finish line. I knew I attacked too early but I made it to the finish line. Unfortunately, the LGBCR kid was behind me and Tony, and Zach were behind him, and I guess they weren't able to get on the LGBCR kids' wheel for the draft. The course was good on Main St. there were a few bumps due to the man-holes, the first right hand corner( Ward St.) had a sewer well exit on the apex which made kind of difficult if you were speeding through it. It also might have been slippery when wet. Coming out of that turn there are bumps right when you exit out of the apex, I saw one kid almost crash there locking up his brakes, the downhill straight a way was a little bit windy( Ward St.), after the straight away there's a right turn( Estudillio St.) and a left (Green, I think) it was a easy corner right on to Castro St., and Right on Main St. and Right on Court St. to the finish.

Cherry Pie Crit.
2/12/06
Jr. 17-18
Place: 3rd
Field: ~30
Teammates: Jordan, JP, Nick, Lars, Tyler, Julian, Andy, Zach

This race was fun; but it was hard with the top juniors in the pack. The Davis team kept attacking. I didn't really do much of the bridging, I should have but when ever they attacked I was usually in the middle, or on the other side of the pack. On the hill, I was usually at the front, on the downhill part people usually went around me. On the last lap I was in front when we went up the hill and down the hill but when we got to the flat section on the back, riders started going around me so I had to wait until they all pass me and I had to go into the wind and work my way up. I must have been 15places back and I probably moved up to 10th place. The last corner came I was still probably 10th place back and I saw an opening to charge through so I did. After I passed everyone, I saw Andy so I decided to get on his wheel and I stayed there to the finish line. And I got third.
Thanks for reading.
