Hey guys, long time no see. So this is my first race back from Cherry Pie, and after a few training miles, i found that this course suited me as being flat.... I went into the race just to try and keep with the group and try different things (moving around, etc) We were told not to do roll out until after the race, and we couldn't do a cool down lap, which I would learn sucks. We started out with 1 neutral lap, and then started. It went pretty smooth with a few attacks from some guys, but nothing really worked. It got fast on the prime laps, but then slowed down after. Through out the race I moved around, went to the back ate and drank, moved up to toward the front, ect... The last 5 laps got pretty fast and the field was pretty strung out. On the last lap I found myself in a pretty bad position towards the back, so I made an effort to try and move up, but didn't try to wear myself out too much before the sprint. On the final stretch I held back from sprinting, and when I saw the other guys up front sprinting I started, I think i passed a few guys. I ended up 6th in 17/18s, and a bunch of the guys got top 10. After the finish we realized we had to do roll out, and at this point I was kind of upset because I wanted to cool down, but oh well. Overall it was a good race, no crashes, a few close calls from people cutting others off.

Breakfast: Oatmeal with brown sugar and a little milk
Weather: Cloudy, wet

Warm-up- So... this is were I messed up a lot, and possibly why I didn't do so well. I only got in about 20 minutes. I stayed in the hotel because I was able to get a great deal. So I road the course Saturday in the rain and it went well, besides being wet and cold. I woke up about 6:45, expecting my room service to get there in time, but it turns out the chef wasn't there yet, so I had to go to the hotel restaurant, which took a lot longer than I thought it would so I figured either I skip breakfast or I will be a little late warming up, so I ate a fast breakfast instead. and then went to warm up.

Race: The race started out pretty fast and I knew I needed a better warm-up on the second lap (I do horribly without warm-ups in cold weather). On the second lap I stuck behind Nick and he helped pull me back up the the front on the climb, after the turn-around I was too tired from climbing that I started to drift back, and before I knew it I was getting dropped. I stuck with Nick as he tried to pull us back to the main field (thanks for pulling hard, Nick). I then realized that I was hurting too much and I slowed down and road a while by myself. I then looked back and saw a Alta Alpina (Heath) rider and I slowed up so we could work together. I introduced myself to him and we worked together for 2 laps, then a Webcor (I think) rider caught up to us, hooked on, and then he attacked, and we stuck with him...At the end I'm not sure how it turned out if we were lapped by the break- away or not, I don't think we were, but the other two riders I was with didn't try and race anymore, so I did a cool down lap.

So... I made a huge mistake in not preparing in time with my breakfast and warming up...
